Tour de France

The Tour de France has passe by our house six times. The last time was during the 8th stage of the Tour de France in 2020 (Cazères-sur-Garonne – Loudenvielle) when Nans Peters was the first runner making it to the top. 



Skiing in Bourg d'Oueil

The small and intimate ski area of Bourg d’Oueil is only 1.8 km or a four minute car ride away. It is ideal for beginners and families. You also find a separate sledding area next to the three ski lifts. How about discovering the mountain on snowshoes. Rental equipment can be found on site for skis, boots, sledges for the little ones, snowshoes as well as a snack bar.


The ski resort of Peyragudes is 15km of a short 20 min ride away. Peyragudes offers you a ski area with two slopes: Agudes and Peyresourde. The  resort boasts with 49 slopes and 17 “ultra-fast” lifts.

The parking lot of the Luchon base station is 12km or a 18min drive from Les Grate Pes. The circulating ropeway/gondola lift then takes you to the top station of Superbagnères in about 9 minutes. A new, lager gondola lift is currently in preparation.

Hikes & the Vallee d’Oueil

Once you reached the Gîte, you don’t hate to travel much farther. In fact there’a a lot of hikes that start right in front of the door or just a few minutes ride away. Here’s a few suggestions. If you know any other great hikes in the area let us know in the comments below 👇🏽

Hikes around Cirès

Lac de Bordères (Bareilles)

You reach Lac de Bordères from your doorstep in Cirès in about 2h and an ascent of 640m. The path passes first along the Vale d’Oueil through the neighbouring village Bourg-d’Oueil before you enter a light forrest that opens towards Cromlech Du Port De Pierrefite. It is here in fact where you cross the border from Haute-Garonne to Hautes-Pyrénées. From there it’s almost a flat stretch to the lake. 

Lac de Bareilles in the Hautes-Pyrénées can be reached in one hour from Cirès.

Mont Né

Mont Ne

Mont Né can be reached in about 40 mins from the parking area of Port de Balès. You may also combine this hike with Lac de Bordères for scenic views and a refreshing swim in summer. It is also a great destination on snwoshoes or skis in winter and early spring.  Here’s another great and detailed description of the hike.

The city hall of the neighbouring village Bourg-d’Oueil has created a very informative website with a lots of helpful information about the history of the valley and interesting sites to visit.
